Obituary for Donald Burrus

Donald  Burrus
Donald Lee Burrus, 73, of Brookport, passed away at 5:47 a.m., Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Baptist Health of Paducah.

Donnie was born October 22, 1943 in Pope County to Ross and Lillian (Blomer) Burrus, Jr. He married the love of his life, Bonnie Owens on October 26, 1962 in Brookport. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2013.

Donnie was retired, having been an operations engineer with E.E.I. in Joppa for several years. He had previously worked at Bethlehem Steel and he was a carpenter. He attended the Brookport Church of God.

He enjoyed woodworking and working with his hands. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by two children, Janet (Shelly Johnson) Burrus of Palm Bay, FL and James (Heisha) Burrus of Brookport; four grandchildren, Devin, Dylan, James “J.J.” Burrus and Johnathan Poe; three sisters, Peggy (Roy) Fairfield, Norma Varvel and Annie (Darrel) Harris of Brookport; sister-in-law, Wilma (Willard ) Walls of Brookport; brother-in-law, Jimmy Galbraith of Brookport. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Kevin Burrus; two brothers, Jimmie and Jackie Joe Burrus; sister, Gail Galbraith; niece, Mary Varvel; sister-in-law, Scholitta Burrus and brother-in-law, Gary Varvel.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the Brookport Church of God (Intersection of 4th & George Streets) with Rev. Charles Tate officiating. Interment will follow in Pell Cemetery.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Brookport Church of God

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Memorial envelopes are available at the church.
