Obituary for Michael Belcher Sr.

Michael  Belcher Sr.
Michael R. Belcher, Sr., 76, of Johnston City, passed away at 12:10 a.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Michael was born April 15, 1941 in Gary, West Virginia to Sam Haze and Louise (Kelley) Belcher. He was united in marriage to Vivian Lee Blankenship on April 20, 1962. She preceded him in death on May 2, 1996.

Michael was retired having been a coal miner most of his life. He was employed by Zeigler #11 and American Coal Mines. He was a member of the UMWA.

Michael was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Johnston City. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.

Survivors include five children, Susan (William) Broom of Tampa, FL, Gina Groutage of Hurst, Kelly (Mike Smith) Hartung of Ferges, Mickey (Brandy) Belcher of Ferges and Luther (Dana) Belcher of Johnston City; ten grandchildren,
Sean and Christopher Broom, Lindsay (Jesus) Juarez, Quinn and Hannah Groutage, Kristine (Dave) Cedar, Knicko Hartung, Gina, Kera and Aaron Belcher; several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Lyon, Peggy Barnes and Faye Mitchell all of West Frankfort. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Chuck Groutage.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 13, 2017 in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Fr. Richard Mohr officiating. Interment will follow in Cana Cemetery near Goreville.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
