Obituary for Billy Dean Gibbs

Billy Dean Gibbs
Billy Dean Gibbs, 67 of Johnston City, passed away at 1:22 a.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017 in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Billy was born August 8, 1950 in Whiteash to Carl Edward and Dollie (Branson) Gibbs. He married Shirley (Warren) Gibbs on June 4, 1971. They have shared 46 years of marriage together.

Billy was retired, having been a coal miner for years. He was employed by Amax Delta Coal Mine. He was a member of the UMWA. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country honorably during Vietnam.

Bill was of the Christian faith. He attended the First Christian Church in Johnston City. He enjoyed fishing, camping, tinkering in his garage and mowing grass. He especially loved to spend time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley of Johnston City; two daughters, Billie Jo (Rob) Thompson of Dongola, Mandy (Eric) Smith of Pittsburg; son, Carl D (Chasidy) Gibbs of Johnston City; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Celebration of life services will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Rev. Donnie Colson officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Herrin and Carterville VFW and American Legion Post concluding the services at the funeral home.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
