Obituary for Charles Willis Hunter

Charles Willis  Hunter
Charles Willis Hunter, 82, of Herrin, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Herrin Hospital.

Charles was born October 26, 1935 in Herrin to Herman Franklin and Zetta Valera (Sizemore) Hunter. He married Deloris Ralls on March 9, 1979 in Herrin. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2016.

Charles was retired having been a correctional officer at the Stateville and Menard Correctional Centers and also at the Federal Prison in Marion for several years. He later owned and operated a semi-tractor trailer and he drove for Crownline Boats and Shawnee Trucking. He had also served with the Illinois National Guard. He was a member of Redemption Church in Johnston City.

Charles enjoyed wrenching on Mopar/Dodge vehicles. He also enjoyed talking on his CB radio and watching Nascar races.

Survivors include his children, Todd (Melinda) Hunter of Stiritz, Kerry Hunter and Kelly Hunter both of Herrin; step-son, Steve (Julia) LaBelle of Zeigler; step-daughter, Debra (Dan) LaBelle of OH; several grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew and his beloved cat, Bear.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elwood Hunter; step-son, Brian LaBelle and an infant son, Charles Hunter, Jr.

The family would like to thank Shawnee Christian Nursing Center and especially, Amanda Kroese for the care and love given to their father

Celebration of life services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Robbey Smith officiating. Inurnment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Redemption Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
