Obituary for Delbert Melvin Williams Jr.

Delbert  Melvin  Williams Jr.
Delbert Melvin Williams, Jr., 70, of Kokomo, Indiana and a former resident of Johnston City, passed away at 10:45 p.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at his residence with his friends by his side.

Melvin was born November 21, 1947 In Sturgis, Michigan to Delbert M. & Mary Louise (Slater) Williams, Sr.

Melvin was a 1965 graduate of Johnston City High School. He was a graduate of SIU-Carbondale with a degree in criminal justice. He was a detective with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department and was an officer with the Johnston City Police Department for a short time. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country honorably with two tours in Vietnam. While living in Washington D.C., Melvin worked for the CIA and the FBI.

Melvin was retired, having been employed by General Motors for several years. He was a member of VFW Post #1152 in Kokomo. He was also a member of Three Rivers/Mt Hermon Masonic Lodge #24 in Three Rivers, MI. He was also a member of the SIU-C Alumni Association.

Melvin is survived by his son; Bryce (Taryn) Williams of Marion; grandchildren; Sydney, Elaina, Alexzander, Aeden and Camdon; numerous cousins; special nephew, Scott (Sheril) Melchi of Three Rivers, MI; close friends, Penny & Dan Johnson of Kokomo and Larry & Sandy Phipps of Johnston City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Millicent Melchi

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2018 in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Rev. Jim Cockburn officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 of Marion and members of Illinois National Guard Military Honors Team.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral Home. Masonic rites will be accorded by Lake Creek Masonic Lodge #729 at 12:30 p.m.

Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
