Obituary for Billy Ray Mathews Sr.

Billy Ray  Mathews Sr.
Billy Ray Mathews, Sr., 83, of Johnston City, passed away at 12:02 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Billy was born August 8, 1934 in Lenoir City, Tennessee to Edgar and Ruby (Rollins) Mathews. He married Mary Ann Kral on July 28, 1960 in Elgin, Illinois
Together they have shared 58 years of marriage.

Billy was retired, having been employed by Carbondale Towers where he was an HVAC and maintenance man for several years. He was a member of the Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Johnston City where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of Lake Creek Masonic Lodge #729 of Johnston City. He was a member of the Good Old Boys band.

Billy enjoyed playing music, fishing, repairing small engines and tractors.

Billy is survived by his wife Mary Ann Mathews of Johnston City; five children, Tammy (Dale) Morris of West Frankfort, Sara Mathews of Johnston City, Lisa (Jeff) Henson of Johnston City, Susan (Chris) Harris of Fairfield, OH and Billy (Kim) Mathews of Carterville; his grandchildren, Erica (Dustin) Mapps, Paige (Matt) Turner, Brittany Seed, James (Kristen) Seed, Ryan Mathews, Draeke (Cassandra) Mathews, and Erran Mathews; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Myah, Jay, Jackson, Jaxson, Parker and Kinlee; brother, David (janet) McCordock of Kentwood, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Kenneth Davis; a sister, Mae Chamblin and one son-in-law, Jay Curtis Seed.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 25, 2018 in Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Rev. Barry Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
