Obituary for Herbert Ervin

Herbert  Ervin
Rev. Herbert E. Ervin, 93, of Johnston City, passed away at 6:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in the VA Community Living Center in Marion.

Herbert was born January 25, 1925 in Neelyville Missouri to Walter and Ann (Worley) Ervin. He married Audrey Francis Mayner on September 9, 1946 in Harrisburg, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on October 4, 2004. Together they shared 58 years of marriage before her passing.

Rev. Ervin pastored many years in the United Pentecostal Church Organization. He pastored in Flint and Grand Blanc, Michigan. He had also founded and built a church in Chouteau, Oklahoma. He also was a retired foreman with Rodgers Construction in Flint. He also farmed, where he raised Haflinger horses and goats.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Velda Ervin of Herrin; four grandchildren, Derek (Libby) Ervin of Johnston City, Ramona (Rev. Terry) Griffith of Herrin, Aaron Richardson of Herrin and Nathan Richardson of Cave Creek, AZ; five great-grandchildren, Dustin (Kaylee) Griffith, Jordan (Destiny) Griffith, Michal Richardson, Lissa Richardson, Emaleigh Brock; sister, Betty Hadley of Texas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rev. Elvin Ervin; great-granddaughter, Kayla Richardson; three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the Marion First Apostolic Church, 923 S. Bentley in Marion with Rev. R. G. Walls and Rev. Joel Gray officiating Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday at the church.

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Herrin City Cemetery with military rites be accorded by the Herrin American Legion Post #645 and VFW Post # 1567, Carterville Post #347 and members of the Illinois National Guard Military Honors Team.

Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the VA Community Living Center. Memorial envelopes will be available at the church.
