Obituary for Delbert Roper

Delbert  Roper
Delbert Roper, 50, of Marion and a former resident of Johnston City, passed away
Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at his residence.

Delbert was born April 26, 1969 in Herrin to George and Earline (Gulley) Roper. He married Tammie Warren on December 27, 1996 in Marion. Tammie survives.

Delbert was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country honorably during Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf War. He was a an over the road truck driver. He was a 1987 graduate of Johnston City High School.

Delbert is survived by his wife Tammie Roper; father, George Roper, Sr. of Johnston City; two half brothers, George Roper, Jr. of Johnston City and Richard (Christina) Young of Phillips, WI; mother-in-law, Gloria Zimmer of Stiritz several aunt and uncles, Paula McNichols of Pittsburg, Marilyn (David) Seidenstricker of Pittsburg and Kathy (Victor) Fann of Blairsville; He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in by his mother, Earline Young; step-mother, Ethel Roper; grandparents, Blanche and Wayne Long and Thomas Earl Gulley; two uncles, Johnny and Kenny Gulley.

Celebration of life services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Dave Nelson officiating. Inurnment will follow in Blairsville Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Herrin American Legion Post #1567, VFW Post# 645 and the Carterville American Legion Post #347 along with members of the Illinois National Guard Military Honor Ritual Team.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
