Lester Franklin Sanders, 91, of Stiritz, passed away 10:41 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2019 at Herrin Hospital with loving family by his side.

Lester was born September 22, 1928 in Christopher to Guy and Ada (Wallace) Sanders. He married Carolyn Sue Jacobs on December 14, 1960 in Old Shawneetown, Illinois. Together they shared 48 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on January 27, 2009.

Lester was retired having been a coal miner with Inland Steel Coal Mine and later with CONSOL Energy in Sesser. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country honorably during the Korean War. He was a member of the Family Worship Center in Johnston City.

Lester enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with neighbors and friends. He also enjoyed whittling. He loved to read his Bible.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Sanders of Carterville, Frank (Cari) Sanders of Goreville; five grandchildren, Curtis (Amada) Sanders of Lancaster, OH., Brian (Janean) Sanders of Marion, Justin Cooper of Herrin, Savannah Sanders of Goreville and Landon Sanders of O’Fallon; several great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Cricket Helton of Lancaster, OH. and Tammy Sanders of Johnston City; close dear family friend, Shirley Peebles. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Sanders; daughter-in-law, Lisa Sanders; three brothers, Sylvester, Robert and Loren Sanders.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Pyle Funeral Home with Chaplain Matt Crain officiating. Interment will follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Herrin American Legion Post #645, Baker-Ladd VFW Post 1567, Carterville American Legion Post #347 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail Team.

Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Sander's Family,
May God's Love comfort you in the days ahead. Lester will definitely be missed, I always Loved how he would grab my hand and say "Good morning, God bless you, have a great day, I appreciate you."
